Has anyone succeeded in weaning Funeral Directors away from brown envelopes and getting them to account to the Treasurer for all fees?
My experience is that Funeral Directors are inconsistent both with the fees paid and the manner in which they pay them. To my mind, it would greatly facilitate overall management of the fee process if all relevant fees were paid (by cheque) to the Parish via the Treasurer in the first instance. Any views ?
If the Diocese could assist by providing a code of practice that could be circulated / made available to circulate to Funeral Directors would this help?

Yes. We have insisted that all payments are to be made by cheques payable to the PCC. They didn't like the idea, inferring that somehow we didn't trust them, but we explained that we needed clarity in our accounts and so they are going along with it.
